Glenann is known as the glen of the colt’s foot or rush lights. It contains a megalithic burial site, known locally as Ossian’s Grave. Ossian was the son of Finn McCool, who went to live with Niamh in the mythical land of Tir na nOg, the land of eternal youth. On returning to Glenann, after 300 years, he accidentally touched the earth and immediately aged and died, and that is where he was buried – or so they say. The piece is very mystical and windswept. It is played entirely on the black keys with the sustaining pedal held down throughout to create a haunting atmosphere.
